PACKING

From slipcases to custom shadow boxes. We are experts in on-site custom packing.

ART PACKING AND CONDITION REPORTING

Most damage happens in the ten minutes either side of a journey, not on the highway. Packing is where a shipment is successful: with the right material against the surface, the right rigidity around it, and a written record of what the work looked like before it left.

We pack paintings, works on paper, photographs, shadow boxes, sculpture and objects. Materials are carefully chosen for each piece — acid-free tissue or glassine against a painted surface, poly foam and coreplast for rigidity, tyvek where moisture is the risk.

Condition reports, cataloguing and inventory are part of the service. If the work is going into storage or across a border, that paperwork is what makes an insurance claim or a customs entry straightforward.

COMMON QUESTIONS

IS SOFT PACKING ENOUGH, OR DO I NEED A CRATE?

For a local move or a shuttle, soft packing is often right. For a border crossing, air freight or long storage, a crate or a ROKBOX is the safer answer — and for the price of soft packing a painting you can now use a ROKBOX.

HOW ARE MATERIALS CHARGED?

Separately from labour and itemised on the invoice. Work is carefully tracked and billed to actuals, so you are not paying a padded flat fee.

DO YOU PROVIDE CONDITION REPORTS?

Yes, with photography. It is standard for registrars and it protects both of us.

CAN YOU PACK AT MY GALLERY OR HOME?

Yes. There is a $50 flat travel fee if packing is not combined with transportation services.
